Frequently asked questions

If USB for RDP is displaying "Connected" it means that the communication is successful. However, if you do not see your USB device within a remote session, your device driver/software has probably not been correctly installed on the remote system (server).

So, it is just a driver issue that has to be fixed on your remote system (server).

Please follow these steps to fix such issue:

  1. On your remote system console, strong>make sure that you have installed the right driver for this specific device. Your remote system (server) is not the PC on which this USB device is plugged (client).
  2. The best practice is to plug this device directly to this remote system (server) and to install the driver/application exactly like you would do on any standalone PC (client).
  3. This is important: The device driver/application must be correctly installed on this remote system (server). Please verify from the server console that it works fine prior trying to use it remotely.

Please do not contact us without having checked the driver/application installation on your remote system (server).

It is the basic requirement that you need to verify when are installing USB for RDP.

Due to a number of technical limitations, multiple access is unfortunately not possible.

When an USB device is shared, it "disappears" from the computer where it is plugged, becoming available for remote connection and use. Any remote server can connect and use this shared USB device, but only one at a time. Once the device is unshared, you regain control over it on the computer where it is plugged.

If your USB devices stopped working after USB for RDP uninstallation, please follow the steps below:

  1. Start → click "Run" → In the Open box, type regedit.exe → click OK.
  2. Find the branch: HKEY _ LOCAL _ MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000
  3. Double-click "UpperFilters" registry key.
  4. Remove the value: "ELTIMA _ USB _ HUB _ FILTER"
  5. Reboot your computer.

In a typical USB for RDP setup, you have at least two computers:

  • the computer that has the shared USB device(s) connected physically (called "computer")
  • the computer that connects to the shared device(s) remotely (called "server")

For ease of use, both parts of USB for RDP are combined in one application. The USB devices are shared through the "Share Local USB devices" tab (computer), while the "Use Remote USB devices" tab is used to connect to the shared USB devices remotely (server).

It is important to understand that only the "server" side require a license. The "Share Local USB devices" tab (computer) is free and do not need to be registered, it will work regardless of whether the product is registered or not. The registration is only required to have access to the "Use Remote USB devices" tab.
